Electronic EID/RFID

Electronic identification (EID) of livestock involves using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) devices that can be carried on an ear tag or in the stomach as a bolus.

They can carry information including NLIS data such as an animal’s Property Identification Code (PIC).  Using EID readers,  other useful livestock management data including health history, fleece yield, genetics and weight gain can be recalled.

Visual RFID tags can be either one piece or two piece but need to be scanned by an RFID reader to access the data on them.
