You don’t have to be Ein-swine to know that pig identification has been given a shake-up. Just a quick blog to let you know that here at Ear Tags Warehouse – we have your back-fatter!
Partnering Pig Producers Processing Change
Many of ewe may have thought that pigs would fly before regulations would get around to including pig identification under the same scheme as other stock, but it has happened and we are here to help ewe get through the process.
We are breeders and exporters from Central Western NSW with a passion for livestock identification and protection of our international livestock, meat and dairy reputation.
Basically, we’re as Australian as a roast on Sunday. We know the rules, we know the products and we have a great relationship with the manufacturers.
Our business is to help your business order accurate and reliable ear tags, readers and accessories.
The Ear tags Warehouse was set up by the families behind AllStock (NSW) Pty Ltd. We have a long history working with, and tagging, livestock so we know the issues you face because we have faced them too.
Our aim is to make livestock tagging simple, efficient and cost-effective for everyone, and to get you tags that will last in the harsh Australian conditions.
Importance of Pig Identification
We all know the importance of pig identification and traceability to the pig industry and Australia’s reputation as an exceptional pork producer.
That reminds me… do you know the difference between bird flu and swine flu? Well it really is simple – if you have bird flu, you need tweetment. If you have swine flu, you need oink-ment.
Seriously though, we don’t tell porky pies – we tell it like it is and can fully guide you through the process.
The 1st February 2018 saw the introduction of PigPass and the mandatory National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) requirements for the traceability of pigs. This traces pig movements between Property Identification Codes (PICs) using visual ear tags printed with your PIC or a pig slap brand registered to your property.
All weaned pigs leaving the property will need to be identified with a brand/tattoo or an NLIS approved pig tag.
Before leaving the breeder property of birth, pigs must be tagged in the left ear with a Breeder Tag (Yellow). Before leaving any other property, pigs must be tagged in the right ear with a Post Breeder Tag (Orange).
PigPass National Vendor Declarations will need to be completed and movements will need to be recorded on the PigPass database.
Remember these changes apply to you if you have one pig, 20 pigs, a pet pig or a Christmas pig.
For more specific information in relation to the rules and regulations see www.pigpass.com.au or call 1800 001 458.
We Are Here to Help Ewe!
There is no need to get disgruntled – like a pig with laryngitis in relation to the changes. Just give us a call and we can trot you through the process. We promise we are not in the business of pulling the wool over people’s eyes and we can work out the correct products to meet all requirements.
But wait… there’s always time for one more pig joke! This one is my favourite…
What do you get if you cross a pig with a dinosaur?
